Biography Repertoire |
Julian Jackson is a virtuoso violinist of no small stature. Born in 1967, he started playing from the age of five, being taught initially by his father, Derek Jackson. He progressed rapidly to play for the National Youth Orchestra at the age of thirteen, and subsequently that year became the leader of the North Powys Youth Orchestra. He trained under Louis Carus at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and became the leader of the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony, Chamber and Opera Orchestras. He was later taught by Beverley Davison and Barry Griffiths. In a wide and varied career, he has performed and toured with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, and has led and toured extensively with Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera”. Session work in 1987 with Darryl Way, Stuart Copeland and Sonja Kristina (formerly of Curved Air) led to his joining an acoustic group, “Miro” in 1988, and the recording of three albums. He also toured with “Marlene” a Marlene Dietrich tribute show, including six months at the Lyric Theatre in the West End, and then continuing his classical involvement, he also toured with the Royal Northern Ballet and the Northern Chamber Orchestra. A series of personal challenges whilst he was in Dublin led him to re-evaluate his career and to move into teaching for a period of ten years. Now settled in Mid-Wales, on the Powys Shropshire border, with several huskies, he is looking forward to a renewed solo career in creative recording and performance. |
